I need help on how to start off on my DAR essay. I’m going as a Chinese worker for the railroad, and making it as a letter to my “family” back in China.
The essay is Describe how you felt on May 10, 1869 when the golden spike was driven at Promontory Summit, Utah to celebrate the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. Pretend you are either a settler planning to use the train to travel to your new home in the west, an Irish or Chinese worker who helped build the line, or a Native American whose way of life was greatly affected by the railroad. Please help me! >_<

Wench! asked: Riggght sorted the train journey. However when im on the tube to Kings Cross the arrival time is the exact same time the other train leaves for Ely…would i be able to get it in time? If not i need a different not too expensive way of getting there. The train i need to catch is Ely to Bury St Edmunds at 8:30.
Please no other options about staying over blah blah. Just need to know if i can get a bus, what times and such.
Taxi would be waaay too much. Thank you x

Amy L asked: Privitize? Increased funding? Europeans are way, way ahead of us on this one, and since federal allocations are about the same as they were 25 years ago they’re going to stay ahead. Next years’ budget is facing a $500 million cut.
Trains use 1/5 less energy than cars or planes and usually can run in poor weather. In a global warming world, it seems we should encourage this mode of travel.
What can we do to bring America’s train travel into the 21st century?
I read the article in Parade, that’s what got me thinking. I haven’t used Amtrak much lately, except for a few short trips. But I’ve taken it coast-to-coast, enjoyed it, and it seems like we’ve got to reinvigorate the process to bring ourselves up to speed, so to speak.

does the union pacific refrigeration train , seattle to newyork 5 day journey , go non - stop. ie is there multiple train drivers on the same train taking shifts while the others sleep on the train. Or does the train stop overnight while letting the driver sleep and the refrigeration units still going?

BlackCup asked: I’m aware that smoking is now in theory banned at all train stations, even if the platform is open-air with no walls or covering (which frankly seems rediculous to me).
In a weeks time I’m going on a roughly 8 hour train journey which entails about 3 or 4 stops, and at one point having to wait about an hour for a connecting train.
As far as I am aware, you are not able to leave the station if it is not your destination, even if you are waiting for a connecting train. So I can’t go for a cigarette outside.
What are my chances of being picked-up on having a quick *** on the platform? Also, if I am spotted, what are the consequences likely to be? Simply asked to put it out, is a fine likely?
Thanks

Hi,
Is anyone aware of the cheapest way I can travel this type of journey by train, I want to travel in two months time, but national rail and thetrainline.com, the cheapest possible price is around £45 return, Will I find it any cheaper elsewhere or by doing in another way? I dont want to wait to closer the time and end up spending even more. Any ideas would be much appriciated. thanks

asked:
I know in Europe they travel by train allot, but is there a way to keep Amtrak in business? The railroad was and still should be the building block of America. What about Promontory and the Golden Spike have events like that been tossed aside and forgotten in history and what of the famous railroaders like Casey Jones has their memory been forgotten as well?
Eliza asked:
If you have travelled on it, how was your journey ? Thx !

G.F.L ? asked: On the 7th of December 2008 I will be getting the train and getting off at Sheffield Railway Station. When I arrive the time will be around 6:30 and I want to know the easiest way to get to the Hallam F.M Arena from the train station. I also want to know the easiest way to get back after the concert has finished which should be somewhere around 10-11.
Bus?
Taxi?
Tram?
How long will it take?! I don’t want to miss my return train journey.
I really don’t want to have to take an over-priced Taxi but I know this will be the easiest way! If anybody has taken this journey before please give me some help =) thanks.
The time will be 18:30, not 6:30 in the morning.
