Seth D asked:
For curiosity’s sake I just checked online what it would cost to travel from Minneapolis to New York by both train and airplane. On Amtrak it would cost about $349 round trip traveling for 28 hours each way and on an airplane it would cost $172 round trip and you would arrive the same day. I also checked what it would cost from Minneapolis to Chicago and it would cost $106 by train traveling eight hours each way or it would cost $115 by airplane with a very short flight, albeit with some lead time necessary for check in and baggage claim. MY POINT IS THIS: Why would anyone pay the same price or more to use such a slow mode of transportation? It is no wonder that more Americans don’t use mass transit and are so car-centric: if you want them to use other means of transportation it has to make financial sense for them!

ever traveled on a bus? I equate riding the bus with nightmares from my youth! In no way possible can this be fun, but I am trying to keep an open mind. I already have 2 chickens and a small pig packed for the trip. Alright it might not be that bad, but I can’t imagine it would be that good. I am shooting for a train as an alternative anyone do that?
Okay, okay I am not really taking a pig and some chickens on the bus. It was crude humor relating to buses in third world countries, which I have ridden on next to a goat! Traveling on the bus in the States I am just kind of worried what type of “goat” I would have to sit near!

I need to get from Rome to Granada, Spain, round-trip, for the purpose of picking up my laptop and iPod that I will not be using while backpacking! Should I go by plane, train or bus?! I am confused…is it even possible to go from Rome to Granada by train? Thanks so much.

BK C asked: I’m considering doing ground travel to a place not too far away from here. Air travel is too expensive (especially since my trip won’t be too far into the future) so I’m considering going by train or even by bus (train is preferred.)
How do I go about searching for travel fare? I’m hoping there is a site similar to Priceline or Travelocity that deals with ground travel of this sort.
DETAILS: I’m hoping to travel a round-trip vacation between Portland, Oregon and Calgary, Alberta (Canada, of course). I’ll be travelling sometime this month.
Once again, I’m looking for help with finding places to get trainfare (or anything with ground travel) be it a Priceline-similar site or anything. I just need a way to find and compare prices for travelfare. Any hints, ideas, suggestions? Any help is much appreciated!

I want to take my son on a European trip when he graduates hs, but we don’t want to be tied to a certain type of tour. Can a travel agent help arrange hotels, train tickets and other things for us while allowing us to be able to do only what we want to do? Can an agent create a custom tour for us?

blondeicehockeyfan asked: I am currently planning a trip to travel around USA and Canada from August to December this year.
I will be flying to Vancouver. Then from LA to Miami. Then from Toronto to UK.
I am thinking of using trains to travel in between there is about 6 to 8 weeks between each flight.
What sorts of prices is train travel? Times varied? Good availability?
Or is there a better way to do it? I have thought about a RV? But prices are high.
Suggestions please
