recently the KTMB introduced the limited stops train services which skips some station for a faster journey. It’s being powered by a locomotive infront rather than just normal commuter. Why is that necessary? Why don’t they just use the commuter as usual?

We know that we can travel from KL to Chiang Mai via Bangkok by train. We want to travel 1st class and need advice from someone who has done this trip, ie. regarding cost (in AUD or US dollar); do the timetables link up in Bangkok or does one have to stay overnight there. Is it easy to arrange and book the whole trip from KL and how many train changes would we have to make?
